The building accommodating the “Sunce” Day Nursery was erected at the central part of the plot bordered by the intersection of Dubrava Str. and Klin Str. in the northeast, with an access through Molvanska Str. The idea was to create as much high-quality space as possible in terms of allowing maximum sunshine and outdoors activities for the children, and to ensure maximum peace for the residential area north of the day nursery. The children’s playground on the southern side was designed for the infant nursery, and the one on the northern side for the day nursery. The main access to the nursery is on the eastern side, from Molvanska Str. On the plot there are also twelve parking places for employees and parents directly connected with the access street, and four parking places in its corridor. The plot is fenced with protective greenery and a safety fence, with full respect to the existing greenery in the streets of Dubrava and Klin.
The building consists of ground-floor premises of a simple and clear inner structure which fits in the parcel on the southern side, and a two-storey structure on the northern side, that dominates the busy intersection and forms a barrier against the high residential buildings in the neighbourhood. The central pedestrian ramp is bearer of the spatial concept in the north-south direction. At the same time it links and generates the entire spatial composition. The assembly room is located on the southern side, next to the southern main access. Via the ramp, the central axis leads towards the upper floors with nursery units and the respective access areas on each floor.
Total gross area: 2,500 m2.
External areas:
The playground area includes two levels: one on the southern side intended for infant units and well connected with the assembly hall, and one for the children of pre-school age on the northern side of the building at a relatively quiet parcel facing the residential neighborhood. All spaces of the outdoors play area extend to the indoors play areas for nursery and pre-school groups, which are both at the same level, but are designed in different materials and intended for different purposes (sand-pit, play area with swings, toboggan, marry-go-round, jungle-gym). The play areas are built of materials corresponding to different purposes (wood is the basic material that links the entire area into a unique complex; sand, grass area, pebbles, and water). Access from the play area to the protective green area as part of the free building space was made possible.
