Description of concept of work:
The position on a hill, the merging into the greenery of the protected zone of the Medvednica Park, and the openness of the residential areas towards the surrounding greenery, ensure the elementary amount of privacy. The surrounding area consists of individual family houses situated within a peaceful and safe neighbourhood.
The new residential area fully fits in the environment in terms of shapes and structure. The loose formulation of the three individual residential structures creates a unique micro-urban entity owing to the well-chosen mutual relations of the structures, a respect for the topography, focusing on the existing vistas, and directing the view to the optimal point of the world.
The villas, which are intended for dwelling, are structured in a one-apartment-per--level form, and variations of one- and two-level units.
The duality of the building is interpreted by the shear of mass along two longitudinal elements stemming from the structure of the apartment itself, and the micro-urban features of the location and its dimensions.
Typologically, each apartment is divided into two functional, spatial and formative segments: the service zone (bathroom area, kitchen) in the shape of a closed cube coated with wood, and the primary zone (basic elements of the apartment, rooms, living-room, dining-room, studios), with predominantly open spaces, big glass surfaces and a dynamic solution for the protection from the sunlight by means of sliding planes. The basic concept of the apartment is founded on the idea to create simple structures for each basic residential unit whose zoning enables flexible use of space.
